Our image of the world is highly selective. Wherever we live, whether we have access to a lot of media or just a few, news is always just a choice of what is really happening in the world. Often enough these news choices are influenced by commercial, political or social interests that viewers and readers have no influence on.
When it comes to international news coverage our news selection becomes even more crucial. Most of the images that we have about certain regions of the world are created by media. They form stereotypes that we adopt and reproduce; stereotypes that not only determine our way of thinking, but also our way of acting. Those of us who travel abroad start looking for these images to be confirmed and are often surprised to find a different perspective. Our project aims to highlight different perspectives and share with you stories of people who are committed to social change in their societies and whose stories are unlikely to be found in your national media.- 1191 reads
